LONGMONT — The Boulder County Coroner's Office is investigating old skeletal remains that Longmont Veterans of Foreign Wars officials have turned over to authorities.
Longmont Cmdr. Jeff Satur says the remains appear to be between 100 and 200 years old.
According to the Longmont Times-Call (http://tinyurl.com/mtvyqw7 ), the coffin was kept in the basement at the VFW in Longmont and used for ceremonies to honor people who died in wars.
The veterans group believes the remains were recovered on an archaeological dig in either eastern Colorado or western Kansas in the 1940s or 1950s. The coffin was handed over to authorities following September floods that damaged the coffin.
