Human remains were found Friday in the Arkansas River east of Florence, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said.
About 1 p.m., Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers notified the Sheriff’s Office that they had discovered the remains, which have not yet been identified.
The Fremont County coroner took possession of the remains and will work to identify them.
A 31-year-old Colorado Springs man, Eric Ashby, has been missing since June 28, when he was rafting with three friends in the Royal Gorge and their raft flipped, the Sheriff’s Office said previously. The others made safely out of the water, but Ashby was seen being swept away in the swift current and has not been seen since.
His family reported him missing July 8, and authorities have initiated multiple search efforts along the Arkansas River in recent weeks.
