Body found in Colorado River

The body of a person apparently linked to a botched pickup theft was found five days after a police search ended on the banks of the Colorado River near a bloody knife.

Authorities say they discovered the body at about 3:30 p.m. Christmas Eve in the Colorado River west of New Castle, according to a statement released Monday by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department.

Searchers recovered the body by 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the statement said. Authorities did not say whether it was a man or a woman.
