Chhun Sun bio

Chhun Sun has been a reporter at The Gazette since 2015, covering everything from public safety and politics to breaking news and quirky events like the 10th anniversary party for the Barbara Club of Colorado Springs. His latest role is assisting The Gazette's preps coverage a few times a week while working the newspaper's weekend breaking news shifts.

A Fresno State graduate, Sun -- a Thailand-born, Cambodian-American -- has been working as a journalist since 2006. He covered sports at The Salt Lake Tribune, The Turlock (Calif.) Journal and The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, Calif. In 2012, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by accepting a two-year stint as a Peace Corps volunteer in Azerbaijan. He completed his service and moved to Cambodia to work for an English-language newspaper called The Khmer Times, using his native dialect of Khmer to interview sources.

But home sickness eventually got the best of him. And in early 2015, he returned to America and landed a position at The Gazette.
