Colorado Springs native Brandon Carlo survived the initial cuts for the United States at its World Junior Hockey Championships evaluation camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The USA White and USA Blue squads were trimmed from 42 players to 27 and will compete as a single U.S. team against Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic through Saturday. Carlo enters his second full season with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League this fall.
Other players who made the cut with Colorado and National Collegiate Hockey Conference connections include Denver goalie Evan Crowley, DU defenseman Will Butcher, Miami wing Anthony Louis and Cherry Hills’ Dominic Turgeon of the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.
The players will be evaluated while they compete in their respective leagues with the December training camp roster to be announced. The final roster will be announced just prior to the championships Dec. 26 through Jan. 5, 2015 in Toronto and Montreal.
