Gazette Premium Content Black Forest firefighter position cut to pay for investigation

News services - Published: April 17, 2014

A part-time firefighter position is being eliminated and there will no longer be any paid firefighters at one fire station in Black Forest because of the high cost of an internal investigation.

The money was spent for independent investigation into the Black Forest Fire and their chief to see if he mishandled the start of fire. That investigation concluded he did not.

According to KKTV-TV (http://tinyurl.com/mj3j5bj ), there was a long list of cuts the board had to make. Those cuts will help pay for the $100,000 in legal fees for that independent investigation.

The report found that no one could have stopped the fire that started June 11 and burned more than 18,000 acres, destroyed 488 homes and killed two people.
