A U.S. artist who has chosen to remain anonymous is behind the 18 billboards that have gone up across the country to promote unity. Five of the billboards are now up in Colorado Springs.

An unidentified U.S. artist wants to spread a message of unity across mid-America.

The individual, who wants to remain anonymous, was inspired by the country's divided political climate to create an art installation of billboards featuring the word "Everybody." Eighteen billboards have sprung up in cities along the 40th parallel of the country, including Colorado Springs, Reno, Nev., Kansas City, Mo., and Dayton, Ohio.

"The artist felt like that divided the country through the middle," said Emily Spitale, publicist for the Everybody Project. "It was a good uniting and dividing line - a stitch in the quilt across America."

Each billboard features an original painting by the artist.

"We need surprises that are good," wrote the individual in an artist's statement. "Not something in our feed, but in our fields. To drive by, not scroll through. We need something to feel. A thing to wonder, not worry, about. Something that reminds us that out of many, we are one and that we are everybody."

The five local billboards are located at 409 S. Nevada Ave., 322 S. Wahsatch Ave., 232 W. Colorado Ave., 902 S. Tejon St. and 389 S. 8th St. The installation will be up through mid-April.

"It's meant to just be about everyone," Spitale said. "The installation is to spread unity and a message of hope and togetherness."
