New Orleans - Christian Bergman's performance on the mound Friday helped lead the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 8-2 victory over New Orleans.
Colorado Springs (1-1) got off to a quick start in the second game of the season when Ben Paulsen smacked a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning off of Zephyrs starter Bryan Evans, scoring CF Jason Pridie, who led off with a single.
The Sox scored again in the second and third innings with an RBI single by Pridie in the second, and an RBI double by Tim Wheeler.
New Orleans (1-1) would scored in the second after a lead-off single by Kyle Jensen and an RBI double by Justin Bour. 2B Josh Rodriguez flew out to RF Kyle Parker in the next at-bat, but Bour was able to make it to third, and scored on a sac-fly by SS Juan Diaz to make it a 3-2 game at the time.
However, Bergman found a groove and sat down 18 consecutive batters, before being pinch-hit for in the 8th inning by Matt McBride.
Bergman threw 83 pitches in seven innings and allowed just the two runs. The single and double were also the only hits he allowed in the game, and did not allow a walk while striking out four batters. Parker added a two-run shot in the fifth inning, driving in 3B Ryan Wheeler.
