The El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office are investigating an early Saturday morning officer-involved shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

Around 2 a.m., two Manitou Springs police officers went to the La Fon Motel, at 123 Manitou Avenue, to check out a Crime Stoppers tip. Once there, they contacted a man and 'an altercation ensued, ' said sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Joe Roybal.

Roybal said the man, who wasn't identified, fired at police. Police returned fire and the man was injured.

He was transported to a hospital for treatment. The police officers were not injured. There were no updates to the suspect's condition Saturday evening.
