Gazette Premium Content POLITICAL NOTEBOOK: Lamborn ranked most conservative in Congress

TOM ROEDER Updated: February 26, 2010 at 12:00 am

Colorado Springs Republican U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn can now call anyone in Congress a liberal.

A political magazine ranked Lamborn the most conservative lawmaker out of 435 House members.

The National Journal ranked lawmakers based on a series of votes. Lamborn came out so far to the right that the left turn signal can now be safely removed from his car. He’ll get there by taking three rights.

Lamborn, unopposed in his bid for a third term, was overjoyed.

“I’ve been called a lot of things over the years while serving in public office, but to be called the most conservative member of Congress is a distinct honor,” he said in a statement.

Lamborn was also recently ranked the least environmentally-friendly lawmaker in Colorado by another group.

In a phone interview, Lamborn said his voting record may gain support in El Paso County but isn't for everyone.

"If I was from Boulder, this could be the kiss of death," he said.
