Broncos vs. Eagles: Three things to watch

FRANK SCHWAB Updated: December 26, 2009 at 12:00 am • Published: December 26, 2009

1. Champ Bailey vs. DeSean Jackson

The Broncos have asked cornerback Champ Bailey to shadow the opponent’s best receiver for most of this season. He won’t have many tougher tests than today, when he faces Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson. Jackson has tied an NFL record with eight touchdowns of 50 or more yards this season.

2. No mistakes

Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton will need to be especially careful. The Eagles love to blitz because it creates interception opportunities. Philadelphia has 23 interceptions, which is tied for third most in the NFL.

3. Get Elvis Dumervil going

The Broncos’ fortunes rise and fall with linebacker Elvis Dumervil because he is by far their top pass rusher. Dumervil has 15 sacks – 13 in the eight wins and two in the six losses. Dumervil didn’t have a sack last week, and Denver predictably lost.
