In a storybook ending to an incredible career as a four-year starter and leading scorer each year, the Kadet netted the winning goal from 35 yards out with fewer than 3 minutes left in a 3-2 victory over Green Mountain in the 4A girls’ soccer championship game.

Three years ago, Schweiss led the Kadets to the 5A title game, only to be turned away by Chatfield. Air Academy reached the quarterfinal round the next two years.

“This was a big deal to the seniors, to make it back one more time,” said Schweiss, who is headed to play soccer at TCU. “The fact that our team truly was a team was the big difference. We had good chemistry.”

QUICK HITS

Did you ever feel strange about wearing No. 13?

I played basketball my freshman year, and there were only a few numbers left. I saw No. 13 and really grew to like it. Thankfully, the unlucky part didn’t follow me. I’m not superstitious, but during our playoff run, we did do the same thing for each game.

What were some examples of your playoff routines?

All of us sat in the same bus seat, and I tried to pack the same snacks (Nutella and crackers and Scooby snacks). We also believed in good karma. If we saw trash, we’d pick it up. We wanted karma on our side.

Do you get a hard time from your family for not going into the military?

Well, I am breaking family tradition, but they’re OK with it. Both my parents were in the military, my mom retired here and my brother (Erik) will be a junior at the Air Force Academy. It really never crossed my mind. I just wasn’t called to do it.

Do you have any big plans this summer before heading south?

Mainly just hanging out with friends. One thing we do is camp out in our backyard and go to Denver to go shopping. We’ll get together to watch “Pretty Little Liars” when the new season starts next week.

What sold you on TCU?

When I went down there, as soon as I stepped on campus, I got this feeling that this was the right place for me. As for the heat and humidity, I’ll just have to push it aside.

Do you cheer for the Metroplex area’s sports teams?

I’m really a big Packers fan. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to break out my Cheesehead!
