ENGLEWOOD — Even with only one free hand, Denver Broncos safety Brian Dawkins grabbed an interception Wednesday evening.

In an impressive feat, Dawkins — who is practicing with a club cast on his injured right hand — cradled in a pass from quarterback Kyle Orton for the pick.

“He can have two clubs or three clubs or something like that, he’d find a way,” secondary coach Ed Donatell said. “He is that type of guy.”

Dawkins said he has played with a cast previously in his career, for a wrist injury. There has been no indication if he will play in Saturday’s preseason game.

HIGHLIGHTS
AND LOWLIGHTS

Tony Scheffler had a good day, and he capped the final practice with a great one-handed catch in the back of the end zone. … Rookie linebacker Lee Robinson got some work with the second team and had an interception. … Receiver Matthew Willis is inching up the depth chart. He got some reps with Denver’s offense and also had a nice leaping catch when he was working on the scout team.

QUOTABLE

“In that meeting with ownership, it was told to me they’ll do their best to accommodate me with that wish. And I’m still here. I’m a Bronco, and all I can do now is do my best to get in my best football shape and be that player I was the past three years.” – receiver Brandon Marshall on a June meeting with owner Pat Bowlen in which he requested a trade

WHAT’S NEXT

The public gets its final chance to watch practice today, as the Broncos wrap up with a lone practice from 1-3 p.m.

FOCUSING ON

Josh Barrett, safety. Barrett seems to be becoming a bit of an agitator. He has had words with Marshall a couple times in camp, got in a near fight with receiver Kenny McKinley a week ago and had a fight with guard Matt McChesney on Wednesday morning. A few punches were thrown before they were broken up. Barrett also made a very nice breakup on a deep pass to Marshall.

“‘We’ll see,’ Marshall said when asked how long it will take him to learn. ‘I’m a fairly smart guy so whenever I sit down and really beat it in my head I’ll get it.’” For reports visit gazettebroncos.freedomblogging.com.
