ENGLEWOOD • Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton looked pretty good in practice Monday, completing a couple of deep balls.
While one fan held a sign saying “Orton hears a boo,” Orton threw long passes to Jabar Gaffney, which the receiver caught with one hand, and then Eddie Royal a few plays later. Both passes were about 50 yards.
Orton is coming off a three-interception game against San Francisco, but said he wasn’t too worried when asked to reassess that performance.
“Really what I thought coming off the field, that I did a lot of good things and made three bad decisions,” Orton said. “Certainly it’s something that I’ve got to correct and do it quickly, but I haven’t been a turnover-prone guy in my career.’’
HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIGHTS
Running back Correll Buckhalter, who was out of practice Sunday and Monday morning, returned on Monday afternoon. … Cornerback Jack Williams missed most of the morning practice and the entire afternoon practice for undisclosed reasons. … Receiver Brandon Lloyd, who left practice early Sunday with an apparent injury, was out on Monday.
“We had a couple delayed substitutions, which forced us to use a couple timeouts. In the preseason, there are 80 guys on the sidelines, so you have got to be on top of that a little bit more because we have got a little bit more moving parts. I can learn something from every one of these preseason games.” — Broncos coach Josh McDaniels on his first preseason game.
The Broncos have one practice today. It begins at 2:30 p.m. and is scheduled to last about two hours.
Kenny McKinley, receiver. McKinley has been very good in Broncos camp, but a bit inconsistent. He dropped a pass today and got on the ground to do pushups as a self-punishment. McKinley has shown great quickness and made some fine catches. He also has had more than his share of dropped passes.
“Orton hasn’t been bothered by much, and continued his even-handed approach to things …” For reports visit gazettebroncos.freedomblogging.com.
