ENGLEWOOD — They’ve had to sing and dive through mud for loose footballs before practice, but the Denver Broncos rookies hit a new low Tuesday.

As part of the rookie hazing, the veterans gave haircuts. Quarterback Tom Brandstater had the top of his head shaved, but the sides remained. Punter Britton Colquitt had a checkerboard look, with a bald spot on the top. Running back Knowshon Moreno had stripes from front to back shaved in his head. Guard Seth Olsen had a mullet-like hairdo when the veterans were done with him.

Brandstater said the haircut was better than the other threat to the rookies, which was getting their eyebrows shaved off if they resisted a haircut.

“I’ll save my eyebrows,” Brandstater said.

HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIGHTS

Receiver Brandon Lloyd, who was working with the starters because Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall were out, had a fantastic practice in the afternoon. He made many catches, including some athletic grabs. … Outside linebacker Jarvis Moss made a couple plays in the afternoon, including a tackle in the backfield and a sack. … Matt Prater was solid, missing only one field goal from about 55 yards. He lined up the next play and made a 55-yarder.

QUOTABLE

“It’s not punishment. It’s ‘Welcome to the league.’”

– tight end Daniel Graham on the rookie hazing.

FOCUSING ON

“It’s reasonable to wonder if (Champ Bailey’s) tenure with the Broncos could play out like the Tony Gonzalez situation in Kansas City. Gonzalez felt the team was rebuilding, wanted a chance to win and requested a trade.” For reports, visit gazettebroncos.freedomblogging.com.
