A 64-year-old Calhan man died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in eastern El Paso County, the Colorado State Patrol said.

A green 1998 Ford Explorer was westbound on Funk Road about 2 p.m. when the man lost control and went off the right side of the road, the State Patrol said. The SUV hit a fence post and rolled once before landing on its wheels.

The crash happened about 1½ miles from Calhan Highway.

The driver and a passenger in the front seat were ejected from the SUV. Neither were wearing seat belts, according to the State Patrol.

The driver died in the crash. The front-seat passenger, a woman, was taken by helicopter to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central with life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. A juvenile, who also was not wearing a seat belt, was driven to the same hospital.
