Road closures, neighborhood restrictions during the Colorado Classic cycling race in Colorado Springs

Road closure and restriction information for areas in and around Colorado Springs during the Colorado Classic cycling race Wednesday and Thursday.

Interstate 25

At Bijou Street, northbound and southbound exit ramps will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. On ramps will remain open.

U.S. 24 may be used to access west-side neighborhoods south of West Colorado Avenue, and Uintah Street will provide access to neighborhoods north of West Colorado Avenue. But expect delays on U.S. 24 due to the heavy detour traffic, the Colorado Department of Transportation advises.

Other areas

Pikes Peak Avenue between Tejon Street and Nevada Avenue

Closed to vehicle traffic starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. Thursday.

This will be the start and finish of the race.

Downtown Colorado Springs and surrounding streets

Closed to vehicle traffic 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

This area includes the area between Cascade Avenue and Mesa Road on the east, Tejon Street on the west, Cache La Poudre on the north, and Colorado Avenue on the south end.

No vehicle traffic will be allowed in the area.

Pedestrian traffic will be limited. To enter or exit the area, contact an officer along the route. Expect long delays.

People with access issues or concerns can call 719-385-INFO on the day of the race.

Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center

Surrounding streets closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

An officer will be posted at Dale Street and Cascade Avenue to help people leave the area. Expect long delays.

Colorado Avenue

Closed to vehicle traffic from Nevada Avenue to 30th Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Use U.S. 24 (Cimmaron Street) or Uintah Street as alternates. Note: Traffic on Uintah Street will not be allowed to cross the race route at 30th Street.

Officers will be at these crossing points. Expect long delays.

- 14th and Colorado Avenue.

- 21st and Colorado Avenue.

- 26th and Colorado Avenue.

Pikes Peak Avenue west of 30th Street

Closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Officers will be at the following crossing points. Expect long delays.

- 31st and Pikes Peak Avenue.

- 34th and Pikes Peak Avenue.

Ridge Road, 30th Street, Mesa Road, Fontmore Road

Closed to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday or when the race ends.

These streets are part of the race route. Streets leading up to the race route may also be closed. For example, 30th will be closed at Garden of the Gods Road.

Pleasant Valley neighborhood

Access to this area will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Residents in this area will be allowed to leave. They can re-enter the neighborhood at 31st Street and Pikes Peak Avenue. Expect delays when leaving or entering the area during the race.

Officers will be posted at the following intersections to assist residents out of the neighborhood. Expect long delays.

- 30th and Bijou Street.

- 30th and Castle Road / Glen Eyrie Circle.

Residents living between Mesa Road and 30th Street

Access to this area will be restricted on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Officers will be posted in neighborhoods to escort residents so they can exit through the Kissing Camels neighborhood.

Residents in this area will be allowed to leave, however, no traffic will be allowed back into the neighborhood until 5 p.m. or the race is finished.

Residents living on Fillmore between 30th Street and Mesa and in La Posada Del Sol on Mesa Road

Access to this area will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Officers will be posted in neighborhoods to escort residents so they can exit through the Fillmore/Mesa intersection.

Kissing Camels neighborhood

Access from Mesa Road will not be allowed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday.

Entrance to the neighborhood will be available from the east side of the neighborhood near the King Soopers off Centennial Boulevard.

Residents living south of Colorado Avenue

This area will not be closed but because of the proximity to the race route, be prepared for delays getting in and out of the neighborhood.
