The Colorado Avalanche announced its 2017-18 schedule on Thursday.
The Avalanche will open the NHL season on Oct. 5 with a three-game road trip, starting against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Avs' home opener against the Boston Bruins at the Pepsi Center is on Oct. 11.
This is the first time that the Avalanche will play the Rangers in a season opener and the third time in the last 12 seasons that the team has opened its campaign on the road.
The Avs' schedule is highlighted by the 2017 SAP NHL Global Series on Nov. 10-11 in Stockholm, Sweden. The Avalanche will play against the Ottawa Senators in the two-day event.
The Avs will also face the two-time Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins twice, on Dec. 11 in Pittsburgh and on Dec. 18 in Denver.
This season, the Avs will play 26 games against its Central Division rivals, including Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago and Nashville. As for Pacific Division teams, the Avs will compete in 24 games, meeting each of their eight opponents three times in 12 home/away games.
The team will host the New York Islanders on New Year's Eve. This will be the fifth straight year that the team has hosted a New Year's game.
The Avs will play 19 weekend games at the Pepsi Center and 11 back-to-back contests.
