Cheyenne Mountain coach Dave Adams, The Gazette Girls' Tennis Coach of the Year, said his team's latest state title surpassed all his expectations.

Not an easy feat for a program that added its ninth straight crown.

The Indians took first in six of the seven spots at the 4A state tournament, excluding No. 1 singles, and had the team title locked up after the second day of the three-day tournament.

The 45-point margin of victory was the Indians' largest at state since 2013.

"A number of the girls made nice moves during the course of the season," Adams said. "It wasn't one of those things where we came into the season and said we were going to rock it. To be honest, the fact that we won six out of seven, that is something we never saw coming."

When asked about the run of recent titles, Adams didn't have a surefire reason why his teams have always jelled at the right time.

He instead deflected any attention from himself and noted that his teams had been "a little deeper than most teams" over the years.

Morgan Hall, his No.1 singles player and The Gazette Peak Performer of the Year, believes it's more than that.

"He's super motivational and positive," Hall said. "The thing that stands out to me is he's the coach that always wants us to play and is always wanting us out there. We would have rain delays and he'd still have something for us to do. He's always pushing us to get better."
