Bountiful snow at Colorado ski areas heading into first weekend of new year

Powder days await skiers and snowboarders this weekend following heavy storms across Colorado's high country.

Colorado Ski Country USA, the association representing 22 ski areas and resorts around the state, reported Friday more than 2 feet of fresh snow on some mountains over the past 48 hours. Vail Resorts, encompassing Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone, reported between 10 and 17 inches over the past two days.

Here's a look at 48-hour snowfall at some areas:

- Arapahoe Basin: 21 inches

- Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands: 17

- Beaver Creek: 16

- Breckenridge: 17

- Cooper: 16

- Copper Mountain: 14

- Crested Butte: 30

- Keystone: 17

- Loveland: 18

- Monarch: 31

- Purgatory: 16

- Winter Park: 16

- Wolf Creek: 29
