The Chevrolet Malibu is an enduring classic that helped launch the midsize sedan segment more than 50 years ago. It drives into the future with an all-new 2016 model engineered to offer more efficiency, connectivity and advanced safety features than ever – all with a brand-new, progressive design.

For over 50 years Chevrolet Malibu has been one of the industry’s stable and enduring mid-size sedans. For 2016 the Malibu undergoes a complete restyle to deliver higher efficiency, better connectivity and advanced safety features.

The family-size sedan includes a quiet interior with more rear-seat legroom, and a comfortable ride with materials and styling that add a swanky aspect. Both longer and lighter, its wheelbase has been stretched close to four inches and Chevy engineers got to work cutting nearly 300 pounds from the previous model.

“Midsize car customers tell us they want great fuel economy and connected technologies, wrapped in a gorgeous exterior,” Jesse Ortega, Malibu chief engineer said. “This is exactly what the 2016 Malibu was engineered to do.”

The Malibu Limited's trunk space is better than most at 16.3 cubic feet and the 60/40-split rear seatbacks can fold down for cargo room. Almost four cubic feet are forfeited in the hybrid version for its air-cooled battery pack, but the propulsion gear fits neatly under the hood.

The upscale dashboard with sweeping lines is enhanced by nice quality materials. At first the controls seem a little confusing thanks to some look-alike buttons on the center stack, but eventually they make sense.

OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot is standard on all models and wireless phone charging is available on LT and Hybrid and standard on Premier.

Malibu’s 7-inch MyLink infotainment system accesses Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functioning off some of the features smartphone users are used to. Many of the features can also be controlled by voice commands so drivers can keep their eyes focused on the road.

Teen Driver is additional tech that encourages safe driving habits by muting the audio or any device paired with the vehicle when front-seat occupants aren’t wearing their seatbelts. Teen Driver also provides audible and visual warnings when the vehicle is traveling over predetermined speeds.

Additionally, Chevy is the first in the industry with a built-in component that lets parents view on a display how their teenager was driving. Information presented include maximum speed reached, distance driven and the number of times active safety features were engaged.

An all-new, Ecotec 1.5L turbo is the standard engine in the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, offering a GM-estimated 37 mpg on the highway. It is part of a new global family of small-displacement gas engines designed with greater power density to deliver confident performance and excellent efficiency.

The hybrid offers a GM-estimated 45 mpg highway powered by a direct-injection 1.8L four-cylinder engine paired with a two-motor drive unit, slightly modified from the 2016 Chevrolet Volt drive unit, providing additional power to assist during acceleration.

Chevrolet’s Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery, or EGHR, technology uses exhaust heat to warm the engine and cabin improving engine warm-up and maintaining consistent fuel economy in cold weather.

Standard Malibu safety technologies include 10 standard air bags, with available features such as Forward Collision Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Automatic Parking Assist is also available

For 2016 the Malibu comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front knee airbags, front side airbags, rear side airbags and side curtain airbags. OnStar telematics is standard with automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking and stolen vehicle assistance.

A rearview camera is standard from the LS trim on up. The Driver Confidence package adds automatic high-beam headlight control, front and rear parking sensors, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, and a forward collision warning system with low-speed automatic braking. The Driver Confidence II package adds a self-parking system, an electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control and an upgraded collision mitigation system with automatic emergency braking.
