FORT COLLINS — Northern Colorado authorities have charged a 29-year-old with illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, making use of a controversial law for the first time.
The Coloradoan reports (http://noconow.co/20nyxHE ) that prosecutors filed the charge last week against a Fort Collins man accused of making threats against Fort Range Community College.
According to court records, he was arrested after a psychologist reported he was making threats about shooting a security guard and burning down a building at the school.
It's the first time the time such a charge has been filed in Larimer, Weld and Boulder counties since the legislation was signed into law more than two years ago.
Investigators say they found an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, Glock handgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in the man's car.
He was released on bond Saturday.
