Breakfast is on the house Wednesday for kindergartners through eighth-graders in Colorado.
The house of Ronald McDonald, that is.
McDonald's restaurants throughout the state will supply free breakfast to children under age 15 who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The promotion runs from 6 to 9 a.m.
Kids will get a choice of Egg McMuffin or Egg White Delight McMuffin, apple slices and 1 percent white milk or Minute Maid Orange Juice.
The meals are worth about $5 each, according to Debbie Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Petersen Communications.
Thousands of children participated in last year's back-to-school freebie, the first time the event was held, she said.
"We had lines out the doors for some of the restaurants," Fitzgerald said.
All 213 McDonald's locations in Colorado took part in the promotion last year, and Fitzgerald said she expects all to participate again this year. Most restaurants are locally owned.
In addition to McDonald's, other sponsors are Minute Maid and the Western Dairy Association.
The event is intended to highlight the importance of eating a good breakfast to start the day. The meals being offered supply part of the daily allowance of nutrition for protein and dietary fiber.
