In 2009, Air Force Academy coach Troy Calhoun signed a $4 million, five-year deal. By 2013, his base salary was $882,000 per year before bonuses that could push it past $1 million.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is paid $200,000 per year.

Hired in 2013, academy basketball coach Dave Pilipovich also brings home more than his bosses. He signed a five-year deal with an average of $340,000 per year. If he wins on the hardwood, the coach could earn far more - an additional $136,000 if he takes the team to the NCAA's Final Four.

Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson makes $184,770 per year for supervising every aspect of the school.
