A 12-year-old Colorado Springs boy died after he fell and hit his head while skateboarding on Saturday evening, Colorado Springs police said.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the boy Monday as Charlie Jones.

Police say Jones was riding his board near 1400 Howard Avenue just before 6 p.m. when he lost control and hit a curb. He was flung from the board, and hit his head on the ground. Jones, who would have turned 13 on July 1, was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Crews who arrived on scene reported that he was unconscious and not breathing, according to police radio traffic.
