Colorado Springs Police were still searching for a man who jumped into a running vehicle with two kids inside and drove about two blocks before abandoning the car.

The vehicle’s owner was just a few feet away while talking to some homeless people for a ministry outreach just after 2 p.m. Saturday, police say, when the unidentfied man got into the car and drove away at. Two children, a 10-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, were inside the car when the thief drove off.

The man parked and ran away from the car near the intersection of Colorado Avenue and Sierra Madre Street. A police officer from Pikes Peak Community College and other witnesses chased the thief, but lost him. He was last seen wearing jeans and a black and white checkered hoodie.

No one was hurt but police are investigating the crime as a kidnapping.
