Monday is the last day to register to vote for the April 2 Colorado Springs municipal election.
Voters will decide on two ballot questions and choose City Council members to represent the city’s six newly-drawn districts. The election will occur by mail ballots, which are expected to be mailed on March 8 to all registered active voters who live in the city limits.
New voters must register no later than March 4. They can register through the Colorado Secretary of State’s website or fill out a voter registration form at the websites of the Colorado Springs City Clerk and El Paso County Clerk and Recorder. These forms can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How to receive a ballot
Voters who are inactive, or have moved and have not updated their new address with their voter registration records may not initially receive a ballot. Election material will not be held by the post office or forwarded to new addresses and will be returned to the city clerk’s office. Voters who are unsure of their voting status can call the city clerk’s office at 385-5901 or the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s election office at 575-8683.
Voters are considered inactive if they did not vote in the November 2012 election. To receive a ballot, inactive voters must fill out an inactive voter ballot request affidavit through the Colorado Springs City Clerk’s Office or reactivate their voter registration through the Colorado Secretary of State’s website. They can also contact the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s election office.
Voters who wish to receive an absentee ballot in the mail must request their ballot by March 26 by contacting the clerk’s office at P.O. Box 1575 MC 110 Colorado Springs, CO 80901, fax it to 385-5114 or e-mail the office at email@example.com. Voters who wish to pick up an absentee ballot in person must make the request by March 29.
