A man was in serious condition Sunday after an early morning shooting outside the clubhouse of the Sin City Disciples, just west of downtown.
Officers were near the motorcycle club at 628 W. Vermijo Street just before 4 a.m. when officers heard gunfire, police said in a news release.
Police searched the area and found a man who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Police say he was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that officers considered life threatening.
Just after 2 p.m. on Sunday, police spokeswoman Barbara Miller said the man was still alive.
"The last I heard, it appeared that he would probably live," Miller said.
Officers spent much of the morning interviewing people and gathering evidence, but a suspect hadn’t been identified.
Sunday’s incident as the latest in a string of trouble on the dead-end street.
On New Year’s Day, a shooting outside the clubhouse left a man wounded.
A trial is under way in 4th Judicial District Court for a March 3, 2012 killing outside the clubhouse.
Christopher Mountjoy, a former Fort Carson staff sergeant, is facing murder charges in the case that’s expected to wrap up Tuesday.
Witnesses testified that Mountjoy was Sin City’s sergeant at arms and was one of three men who opened fire on Virgil Means after a dispute inside the club during an after-hours party.
On Sunday, police closed down a stretch of Vermijo for the new shooting investigation.
