Arapahoe High School gunman's parents offer prayers for wounded student

CENTENNIAL — The parents of Arapahoe High School gunman Karl Pierson are speaking publicly about the shooting for the first time.

Barbara and Mark Pierson issued a statement Monday saying they were shattered and devastated by Friday's shooting. They said the loved their son dearly and "cannot begin to understand why Karl did what he did."

They also said their thoughts and prayers were with the student he shot — 17-year-old Claire Davis — and her family as well as the entire school community.
