About 40 customers are still without water and traffic is still being detoured at North Chestnut Street and Mesa Valley Road because of a water main break, Colorado Springs utilities said.
Spokeswoman Nikki Richardson said crews worked overnight Wednesday and plan to continue to work overnight Thursday to restore service and open the road by the morning drive Friday.
"The work that they were doing did take a little bit longer than they originally thought," she said. "They're having to drain a 20-inch water main before they can make their final repairs, so right now, they're talking about working through the night."
Richardson said the detour is in a "tricky spot" but it's only about 1 1/2 blocks longC.
"People can still get to where they need to go," she said. "It's just going to take a little bit longer."
