In 4A, Falcon, featuring an offense averaging nearly 43 points – tops in all of 4A – swoops into Sand Creek, home of the second-stingiest defense in 4A with a 9-point-per-game average. For the record, Doherty, with 182 points in four games, is the area’s top-scoring team at 45.5 points. … In 3A, it’s TCA visiting Discovery Canyon at District 20 Stadium. TCA has won three of the four games in the short but intense series. 2A offers Florence, once again one of the state’s best, traveling north to play upstart Manitou Springs.

Barring a tie, that’ll change Tuesday when Cheyenne Mountain travels to Lewis-Palmer. … Speaking of showdowns pitting undefeated teams, consider taking in Tuesday’s 3A Tri-Peaks game between host Manitou Springs and TCA.

NOTES: 5A takes the week off from Metro League play, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any compelling matchups. Just look at the Doherty-Cheyenne Mountain matchup Friday, featuring the defending 5A champs at the five-time reigning 4A titlists. … Manitou Springs lost a two-game lead at Platte Valley on Sept. 21, then won the fifth game to stay undefeated. TCA is 4-1 in league play but faces a tough week with Colorado Springs Christian (3-1 in Tri-Peaks West play), 4A Air Academy and league foe Salida.
