Recall election is about bullying

Definition of a bully: uses threats and intimidation to win control. The leadership of the NRA and the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners fit this definition perfectly. Are the residents of Colorado Springs and Fountain going to let themselves be bullied?

Likewise, the recall election is a farce and ridiculous for the following reasons:

- Sen. John Morse is the Colorado State Senate President and brings honor to the area and can bring many perks.

- Recall elections should be reserved for corruption, dishonesty and malfeasance in office - none of which fit here.

- Senator Morse is term limited and will be out of office next year so why not wait until then and save taxpayers$200,000.

- None of the gun safety laws passed by the Colorado Legislature violates the Second Amendment:

Who disagrees with universal background checks to protect us all from convicted felons, those with court issued restraining orders and the mentally ill?

There is not one recorded instance of a semi-automatic weapon with multiclips being used for defense of person or property in Colorado.

Persons purchasing guns need to pay for the background checks rather than forcing all taxpayers to pay for it.

This election is really about bullying by the NRA and RMGO, to scare away any reasonable gun safety legislation or candidates who support this.

No one is taking anyone's guns

As a gun owner I have no problem with the gun safety law that our Sen. John Morse has endorsed. No one is taking anyone's guns! We are being required to have background checks and limiting the number of bullets for magazines. That's all! Morse has written a tax law to create jobs, a law that cracks down on sex offenders, he's worked on education, senior citizens home care, veterans health services, etc. Morse was voted in by a majority. He should be getting handshakes and a big thank you for all that he has, and is doing!

Less than thrilled with Herpin's record

I would like to respond to Teri Godall's letter in the Sunday, Aug. 18, in The Gazette. I commend him for hitting the sidewalks and knocking on doors to tell everyone how enthusiastic he is for Bernie Herpin. I am less than thrilled about the record of Herpin.

He is an unabashed supporter of TABOR. Does Herpin know that there is a nonpartisan effort in El Paso County of prominent citizens who want to change or eliminate TABOR? Is Herpin in the pocket of Douglas Bruce? Is Herpin willing to sign a no kicking photographers pledge in the State Senate? Thank goodness citizens can go to The Gazette archives and look at what Herpin has said in the last 15 or 20 years.

In my opinion, Herpin is not fair and open-minded when it comes to dealing with the various issues that face El Paso County. Especially gun safety. He is unable to represent all of the citizens of Senate District 11, just a small group of extremists who agree with him. Senator John Morse has represented the majority of people that twice elected him to the Senate, and I think we should vote no to recall him. This would also say no to Herpin and his friends who want to use the recall process for their own narrow ends.

John Morse has to go

I can't believe this man Sen. John Morse, where is he from? He certainly cannot be from the Southwestern United States. The traitor Morse is not from the mountains and plains of America. Since when does a proud man of Colorado do the bidding of that shriveled up lying Marxist mayor of New York, Michael Rubens Bloomberg! Bloomberg switched parties after having spent his life as a Marxist Democrat because he could not get elected to dog catcher in New York City. The Democrats had made a complete wreck of that once great city.

Now the corrupt Bloomberg has the gall to attempt to buy Colorado; to buy our state legislature! Morse took the payoff!

Morse has to go, and not just out of Colorado politics but out of my brave and competent home of Colorado. Everyone I know would prefer he leave our United States of America altogether. Once Morse is dealt with we need to do something about the arrogant Bloomberg. I think a close look needs to be made of Morse's financial transactions for the foreseeable future. Morse must go.

'My right to defend myself'

John Morse, your infringement of my Second Amendment protections is unconstitutional and unenforceable. You and those like you should be held accountable for every decision you make that results in harm to others. Your laws are opposed by all 62 of our county sheriffs.

As grateful as I am for our local police, they know, and I know, they may not arrive in time. I am sure they support my right to defend myself.

From Wikipedia:

The U.S. Court of Appeal for the 10th Circuit agreed with Mrs. Jessica Gonzalez of Castle Rock who alleged liability after she repeatedly called the police when her husband, violating a permanent restraining order, abducted her three daughters. It was appealed to the U. S. Supreme Court.

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 10th Circuit and found that the police were not liable when her three young girls were murdered by her husband.
