Two teachers from Colorado Springs are among 40 in the state to receive the 2013 Boettcher Foundation Teacher Recognition Awards.

Thomas Harder, a teacher at St. Mary's High School, and Jeremy Joiner, who teaches at Palmer High School, are the local recipients.

Launched in 1992, the program provides an opportunity for new Boettcher scholars to recognize counselors, principals, superintendents and, in particular, teachers who have made an impact on their lives.

Benjamin Cloud nominated Harder, and Beatriz Zimmermann nominated Joiner.

At the awards ceremony held recently at the Denver Botanic Gardens, each teacher received a plaque and a $1,000 grant to be used for educational programs to benefit students at their schools.

Each year, the Boettcher Foundation provides merit-based scholarships offering a free-ride to any four-year institution in Colorado to selected high school seniors.
