Wednesday's roundup: Palmer Ridge edges Lewis-Palmer in wrestling

Palmer Ridge 40, Lewis-Palmer 38

At Palmer Ridge: Palmer Ridge built 18-0 and 40-23 leads, then held on for a narrow dual-meet victory.

Five pins, including ones by Tyler Thalhammer at 138 and Erik Guy at 152, helped the Bears stretch their lead, but Lewis-Palmer fought back to make it close.

Ricky Anderson won his 160-pound match against Adam Bryan 8-5 to help the Rangers, and Matt Brines (170) and Joseph Glenn (182) finished the meet with second-period pins, but it was not enough.

Sierra 49, Mitchell 27

At Mitchell: Sierra won four of the five matches that were actually contested and also got four forfeit victories en route to the dual win.

Sierra's Anthony Sablan won the match of the night, edging Jeremy Mathews 8-6 at 138 pounds. Emileo Ochoa at 126 and Erick Fregoso at 195 got pins for the Stallions.

Mitchell's lone win on the mat came from Nikkolas Shopp, who defeated Brandon Fergerson 7-0 in their 132-pound match.

Discovery Canyon 53, Air Academy 18

At Air Academy: Three pins, two technical falls and a major decision propelled Discovery Canyon to the dual-meet victory.

Two-time state champion A.J. Rees scored a 10-2 major decision over Hunter Milner of Air Academy, and the Thunder got pins from Spencer Reynolds at 113, Kyle Arnold at 138 and Tyler Oberg at 145.

Discovery Canyon’s Sam Turner won by technical fall, 17-0, against Dillon Cea in their 106-pound match, and Jack Palmer was a 15-0 tech fall winner over Luke Bautista at 182.

Air Academy was led by 126-pound Peter Hanenberg, who pinned Dylan Harlan midway through the third period and Caleb Cuneio, who pinned Cameron Packwood early in the third period of their 170-pound match.

Falcon 62, Sand Creek 15

At Sand Creek: Falcon rode five forfeits and four pins to a lopsided dual victory.

Falcon's Justin Barren earned a hard-fought 5-3 win over Edgar Urquijo at 170 pounds, and Cody Soulka beat Jeremy Jaquess by technical fall in the first period of their 152-pound match. The Falcons also had a pair of first-period pins by Kyle Soulka at 160 and Anthony Lagorio at 182.

Sand Creek's Aaron Bristow beat Zach Buchner 5-0 in their 132-pound match, and Joseph Apodaca pinned Bailey Flores in the second period of their 126-pound match.

Mesa Ridge 84, Harrison 0

At Harrison: Six pins and eight forfeits made for an easy night for Mesa Ridge.

Devin Roettiger led the way for the Grizzlies with a 44-second pin of Luis Gutierrez.



Pikes Peak No. 1 Doherty 4, Cheyenne Mountain 2

At Sertich Ice Center: Cameron Komrofske scored twice and had an assist, and Dusty Kachel had a goal and three assists to lead Pikes Peak No. 1 Doherty (12-3).

Patrick Aldredge also scored, and Evan Weidner added three assists for the Spartans, who have won four straight.

Nick Lacayo and Zach Werner scored for Cheyenne Mountain (3-9-1), and Doug Klopenstine added a pair of assists.

Palmer 3, Rampart 1

At Sertich Ice Center: Palmer (3-9-1) scored two third-period goals to break a 1-1 tie and complete a come-from behind victory.

Hayden Hoover scored the game-winner 6:14 into the third, and R.J. Haenze added an insurance goal at the 9:09 mark.

Rampart (0-15) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Josh Baker 1:04 into the game, but the Terrors pulled even thanks to Austin Storm's unassisted goal 1:52 into the second.
