An 89-year-old man got a bit of a surprise early Friday morning when a pickup truck smashed into his home on Vista Place in southwest Colorado Springs.

Police had just got done checking on another call near Stratton Open Space just after 1 a.m. when a white Ford F-150 sped into the parking lot. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the male driver tore out of the lot and hit a sign.

The truck eluded police temporarily before into crashed through the front of the 89-year-old's home in the 1400 block of Vista Place. Police found the truck "entirely inside the residence" and had caused considerable damage to the house.

The driver ran from the house and eluded police.

The 89-year-old man was unharmed, police said.
