Drew Pomeranz's gem wasted, Colorado Sky Sox rally to win in ninth

Drew Pomeranz was nearly unhittable for 62/3 innings and Colorado Springs rallied for three runs in the ninth inning as the Sky Sox defeated the Las Vegas 51s 9-7 Sunday at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

Pomeranz allowed just three hits and walked two while striking out 11 before being lifted after throwing 107 pitches. It was an encouraging start for the hard-throwing left-hander, who had posted a 7.24 ERA over his previous five starts.

Corey Dickerson, Matt McBride and Ryan Wheeler each drove in two runs as the middle of the Sky Sox batting order produced. McBride and Tim Wheeler each had three hits.

Charlie Culberson and Ben Paulsen opened the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back solo homers to give Colorado Springs the lead. Charlie Blackman added an RBI single and scored on Dickerson's triple. McBride doubled home Dickerson to complete the five-run frame.

McBride added another RBI double in the seventh, but Las Vegas rallied for six runs in the eighth, five off of Sky Sox reliever Michael Solbach, to tie the score.

Dickerson's RBI double in the ninth reclaimed the lead before Ryan Wheeler drilled a two-run homer to center field.

Coty Woods (3-1) pitched 12/3 innings of relief to get the win. Mike McClendon retire the final batter for his second save.

The Sky Sox had 17 hits, eight for extra bases.
