Police identify man arrested in carjacking

Colorado Springs police arrested one of two men who assaulted and carjacked another man Thursday night.

Police were called about 11 p.m. Thursday to an area near East Fountain Boulevard and South Chelton Road, where a man reported that two white men assaulted him with a handgun and took his Ford F150 pickup truck.

One of the suspects left the area in the truck while the other fled on foot.

The suspect who took the Ford was taken into custody near Garden of the Gods Road and Interstate 25.

Colorado Springs police identified the man as 29-year-old Gene Hamilton.

A handgun was recovered from his waistband.

Hamilton has been charged with aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, felony menacing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

The suspect who fled on foot remains on the loose.
