Dillon Reservoir

A high-altitude boat ride is one of numerous fun activities in "Colorado's Playground." At the largest lake in the region, you can find boat rentals, sailing instruction and racing regattas, as well as nearby camping sites. With a lake full of trout, fishing is at its best. There are also paved paths, where you can drink in the views. denverwater.org/recreation/dillon

Blue River

This beautiful stream helps to fill the 2,790-acre Dillon Reservoir and the Green Mountain Reservoir. Along with its tributaries, it defines the deep valleys in the area's terrain. Designated a Gold Medal Fishing Stream by the Colorado Wildlife Commission, fly and reel fishing are favorite pastimes. Rafting, kayaking and canoeing are exceptional here.

Breckenridge Peak 8 Fun Park

The whole family will love this unique mountain amusement park. Three 2,600-foot alpine slide tracks and a roller coaster through the forest are just the beginning. Ride the BreckConnect Gondola to the park and take advantage of gemstone mining, the climbing wall, a superbungee trampoline and more. breckenridge.com/peak-8-fun-park

The Raven at Three Peaks

This championship golf course offers breathtaking scenery of the surrounding 13,000-foot peaks and is lined with towering pines and aspen. Nearby creeks and lakes are part of the course and best viewed from a distance if you hope to avoid a penalty. Ranked as the top golf experience in Colorado by Avid Golfer, this course is a must play. ravenatthreepeaks.com

Cycling/mountain biking

Nestled throughout the county, you'll find a large number of paved paths as well as dirt trails - and a ton of people enjoying sunny days on two wheels. From beginner trips the entire family can enjoy to more advanced routes that climb some of the state's more scenic highways and mountainsides, there's something for every skill level. Try the trip from Frisco to Copper Mountain.
