An unattended suitcase in front of a downtown bank caused quite the stir Friday.

Colorado Springs police blocked off Cascade Avenue between Cimarron and Costilla streets for several hours and summoned the bomb squad to investigate what was inside.

After a bomb technician X-rayed the suitcase, which was left in front of the Wells Fargo bank at 410 S. Cascade Ave., police determined the suitcase didn’t pose a danger.

The suitcase contained clothes and a big stuffed animal that doubles as a pillow.

“Certainly with all the bombings around the nation, we are on heightened alert,” police Sgt. Mark DeVorss said.
