For more than four decades since his remarkable debut, John Prine has been a 'songwriter's songwriter, ' with a long list of artists who have recorded gems from his extensive catalogue, including Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Ben Harper, Joan Baez and many others. With numerous accolades, including two Grammys, he has the distinction of being one of the few songwriters honored by the Library of Congress and U.S. Poet Laureate. Beyond being a consummate songwriter, Prine is aptly referred to as 'an American treasure. ' During his concerts, I've been transformed into 'an angel that flies from Montgomery ' and gone 'awhistlin' and afishin' in heaven, ' and I plan to journey with him again at 7 p.m. Saturday, Pikes Peak Center, 190 S. Cascade Ave. Tickets prices are $39-$59. Details: 520-7469, pikespeakcenter.com.
