A Coronado High School teacher was recently named a 2013 Rising Star award by the Journalism Education Association.

Angela Banfield has taught English and advised the newspaper for five years, taught journalism and advised yearbook for three years, and taught ancient literature for two years. Coronado is familiar ground, since Banfield attended as a high school student.

The five Rising Star award winners represent five states and advise a variety of student media. The honor recognizes teachers with one to five years’ journalism teaching and/or advising experience who demonstrate a commitment to journalism education and show promise.
