A man on the run from bail bond agents nearly got into a head-on crash with police, rolled his car and was arrested about 11 p.m. Monday, Colorado Springs police said.
Michael Joseph Plassmeyer had several outstanding warrants, including on sexual assault, felony menacing, vehicular eluding and assault “to name a few,” according to a police report.
He was booked into the Criminal Justice Center on those charges plus new ones from Monday's incident, police said.
At 10:59 p.m. Officer Doug Grimmett saw a white station wagon run two red lights at Garden of the Gods Road and I-25. When he turned on his red lights, the car fled onto Interstate 25 and headed south in the northbound lane. A second officer, Jake Skifstad got onto northbound I-25 to stop the vehicle.
Just north of the Fillmore Street overpass Skifstad and Plassmeyer nearly crashed head-on. lassmeyer rolled his vehicle trying to evade Skifstad and then fled on foot, police said. Skifstad chased him down and arrested him.
Investigation revealed Plassmeyer was driving a car he had allegedly stolen during a home burglary in December, police said. Earlier, he allegedly rammed the cars of the bail bond agents at the 3500 block of Rialto Heights, police said.
