A shooting, a car jacking and a car crash on Thursday night led to the arrest of a Colorado Springs man on suspicion of aggravated robbery, Colorado Springs police said.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to a report of a shooting near Afternoon Circle and Chelton Road, but found no shooting victim. Evidence at the scene indicated a shooting had taken place, police said..
Meanwhile, almost simultaneously and a block away, at Chelton and Mallard Drive, a car crash was also called in to police. At the crash scene officers found a red Chevrolet Blazer, the front of which was completely crushed in, and witnesses said the driver had fled the area.
Shortly afterwards, a car-jacking was reported in the 1100 block of South Chelton Road, also nearby, police said. The victim was parked in a 1992 Chevrolet pickup in the parking lot of strip mall when a man walked up and “took the vehicle from the victim by force,” police said.
Not long after, police received yet another report of a crash near South Union Boulevard and Hancock Expressway, involving the stolen Chevy pickup. The driver matched the description of both the suspected car-jacker, as well as the man who fled from the crashed Chevy Blazer.
A block from the Hancock crash, the same man, who had a gunshot wound to his left side, was picked up and taken to a local hospital, police said. A police investigation identified the man as the main suspect in the string of incidents, and after he was booked in the El Paso County jail after he was released from the hospital.
The investigation is on-going. The name of arrested man was not released.
