An arrest warrant released Friday alleges that a former drama and choir teacher at Calhan High School allegedly had sex with two 17-year-old male students.
One of the students told investigators he had sex with teacher Amanda Rowles “on at least 40 occasions” over a six-month time span starting in December, 2011.
“He said they would either go on hikes or go to her mother’s residence when her mother was not home,” the affidavit said.
Another student told deputies he pursued a relationship with Rowles, 27, in the spring of 2011 after they kissed in a classroom after school.
“He kissed her on the lips and she kissed him back, but she did eventually push him away and told him it was wrong for them to do that,” the affidavit said.
Deputies said the teacher eventually gave in to a sexual relationship with the second boy, also 17 at the time.
Rowles was arrested Thursday by Aurora policecq on El Paso County arrest warrants alleging two counts of sexual assault by one in a position of trust. She was held in the Aurora City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bal.
In September, El Paso County deputies began investigating a tip from Calhan school administrators that Rowles may have had sexual relationship with a former student.
Deputies interviewed Rowles’ former students, many of whom said they had heard rumors about the teacher.
Those interviews led them to the two boys.
The investigation revealed she had sexual encounters with the two boys during the 2011-12 school year, court papers said. Rowles did not teach at Calhan this school year and had moved to the Denver area, the sheriff’s office said.
One of the 17-year-olds told deputies that he had exchanged dozens of text messages with Rowles.
Rowles abruptly ended their relationship in May, court papers said.
“That hurt,” he told deputies.
