One man person is in custody and two more were being held Monday afternoon after explosives were found at an apartment complex near Oro Blanco Drive and Carefree Circle in eastern Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs Fire Department hazardous material crews initially headed to the Carefree Village Apartments to investigate reports of suspicious items found on the sidewalk.
The items were found to be pop-bottle style explosives. Police said chemicals are mixed in the bottles which are then sealed. Pressure builds up and an explosion occurs.
One of the chemical bombs exploded on its own Monday morning and the others were detonated by the police explosives team, an officer at the Stetson Hills substation said.
Oro Blanco was closed from North Carefree Circle north to Artistic Circle from about 10 a.m. to just before 11 while officers investigated.
