A five-hour standoff ended peacefully Thursday afternoon when a man, his girlfriend and a young boy walked out of an apartment south of downtown.

Julian Adolf Gutierrez, 23, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and Christine Aleman, 26, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse/criminal negligence, Colorado Springs police said.

Colorado Springs police were called to the Cheyenne Vista Apartments, 370 Crestone Lane,  about 7:30 a.m. Thursday in response to a domestic disturbance, said Barbara Miller, a police spokeswoman.

Neighbors said they heard screaming coming from the apartment that morning. The couple did not live in the apartment, according to police, but had stayed the night there with their friend.

When police arrived Gutierrez, who was reportedly armed, was inside and his girlfriend and a young child were with them, Miller said. Police were in contact with Aleman who said she wasn't being threatened and told police she was coming out, but delayed doing so, Miller said.

After several hours, the man surrendered to police. No one was injured.
