Police say they've arrested a man thought tied to three robberies that happened within an hour in southern Colorado Springs Saturday night.
Officers say an SUV spotted by a patrolling officer led them to 28 year-old Anthony Powell. The SUV, found parked in southern Colorado Springs, matched the description of a vehicle used in the hold ups of two hotels and a convenience store that were hit between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
The officer checked out the SUV and spotted what he thought could be loot from the robberies inside. Police impounded the rig, which was later reported as stolen.
Police say they found Powell while investigating the vehicle theft, and he matched the description of the sunglasses-wearing gunman given by robbery victims.
"Further investigation resulted in the recovery of evidence connecting 28 year-old Anthony Powell to the robberies," police said in a news release.
Police said Sunday that Powell, who was held at the El Paso County jail, could be tied to two other Saturday robberies at a convenience store and a hotel in Manitou Springs.
