Coach Dave Pilipovich was pleased by the play of sophomore center Marek Olesinski, who came off the bench to grab six rebounds in 10 minutes.
“He had six rebounds total coming into this game,” Pilipovich said. “He had some great minutes.”
Forward Mike Fitzgerald said Olesinski is “very aggressive” in practice.
“He’s physical down there,” Fitzgerald said. “That’s what we need from him. He’s a very strong kid with a lot of potential. That’s why we were so happy to see him come out that way today.”
Pilipovich also complimented freshman guard Tre’ Coggins, who scored four points in 12 minutes.
“He calmed us down,” Pilipovich said. “And made a big 3.”

Hammonds hopes to return
Pilipovich hopes sophomore forward Justin Hammonds will return to the team for the Dec. 22 game at California-Riverside. Hammonds was academically ineligible in the first semester.
“I’m optimistic,” Pilipovich said of Hammonds’ return. “But I’m always optimistic. He brings us energy. He’s a rebounder. He’s a slasher/driver.”
Hammonds averaged 4.5 points last season. He started three games.
