Colorado Springs firefighters worked early Saturday to douse a smoldering fire at a garbage transfer station south of Fountain Boulevard and Interstate 25.

The fire at a Waste Management building at 1965 Commercial Blvd. was reported at 5:20 a.m., the fire department said in Twitter.

Crews reported a working blaze fueled by burning trash. The department said firefighters were taking a defensive stance, ensuring the fire didn't spread away from the trash.

The blaze was out and firefighters had left the scene by 10 a.m.
