Officer struck as woman speeds from traffic stop

A woman pulled over with stolen plates on her car struck a policeman as she sped away from a traffic stop at East Fillmore Street and Illinois Avenue in north central Colorado Springs.

Stephanie Murillo, 29, was booked on investigation of third degree assault.

Police say they pulled Murillo over just after 1 a.m. Saturday based on the suspicious plates. As officers moved to arrest the her, she hit the gas, police said, striking an officer, who suffered minor injuries.

Other officers gave chase as the officer who was struck was taken to a hospital where he was treated and later released.

The woman wrecked her car about six blocks away at Virginia and Nichols avenues. Police say the she jumped from the wrecked car and took off on foot.

Officers flooded the area and brought in a tracking dog, but failed to find the woman.

She was later located by police.
